Kerry Griggs  Person Centred counsellor (MBACP).

Hello thanks for visiting my website. I'm Kerry, l am a Person Centred counsellor working face to face, online, telephone and walk n talk.

My approach is person centred. I provide a safe space where you can talk about what you need to and what you're struggling with at this point in your life. Together we can start a conversation about how we can work together to support you and work towards happier living. Painful feelings and reactions can get in the way of living. When someone listens and is fully present with us, we can listen to what hurts inside. Learning to hear ourselves, with compassion accompanied by a caring other, can be a very healing process. New ways forward emerge, you become more able to cope, make decisions you couldn't before, or express yourself as once you could not. It may be surprising to discover what held you back. We all have inner knowledge of what's right for us. I will work with you to find your inner resources so you can navigate your life with less stress.

Why counselling?

Making sense : however stuck or unhappy we feel, however scary or deeply distressing our experiences, these make very good sense when we understand them as a natural reaction to what life has thrown at us. This includes childhood experiences, losses, painful dilemmas in adult life, as well as the social and economic conditions we are living in, or society's view of how we should be.

You may also want counselling because you are experiencing life in ways that are hard to describe. Feeling stuck, feeling life has no meaning, feeling numb, feeling reactive to everything, being in conflict with others or yourself, having difficulty making decisions, feeling unfulfilled. You may feel there is more to life, but don't know how to find it.

I can help with depression or feeling low, anxiety, anger, feelings of loss or bereavement, parenting issues, work or the lack of it, relationship difficulties, loneliness, discrimination, gender identity, lack of confidence, low self esteem, addiction, self harm and growing older.

About Me

" To love means to be actively concerned for the life and the growth of another"                           Irvine D. Yalom

I have a passion for psychology, and personal development which started 30 years ago. Over this time I have had the privilege to be able to explore a number of areas of interest, these include yoga, meditation and dance.
My prior fascination and work in healing and alternative therapies led me to my interest in counselling. I studied and gained my CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling and also completed the foundation course in bereavement, and spent two and a half years working in bereavement and loss for Cruse. I also worked as a care and support worker with people struggling with their mental health and people with learning disabilities and elders.I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have professional developmental training in different areas.
I am a natural warm and caring person and I believe everyone has the right to live a fulfilled life with meaningful relationships. No matter what we have been through, it's my belief that we have the capacity to heal. For me, the most important qualities the therapist can offer are being there for the client, witnessing their story and offering a warm and non judgemental space.
I have worked extensively with loss and bereavement. I have also worked with sexual abuse, low self esteem, depression, anxiety, anger and relationship issues. Regardless of my experience, I am happy to work with whatever you bring to me and I welcome a diverse range of clients.

Walking Therapy combines walking with counselling, it takes place in a natural outdoor setting. Walking outside can help you feel less 'under the spotlight', and more at ease, in contrast to sitting in a therapy room, and helps re-establish your connection with nature.
Research studies have recently proven that walking, talking and physical movement vastly reduces symptoms of stress, anger, depression and work stress otherwise known as burnout. Walking therapy is a way to get you to listen to yourself openly and honestly, and will help you regain personal clarity.
